prayer times API for Claude & AI agents
Daily prayer times and Hijri calendar dates for any city or coordinates. Free REST API, no key.
What it does
AlAdhan is a free REST API run by Islamic Network. It returns daily prayer times (Fajr through Isha, plus Imsak and Midnight) and the matching Hijri date for a city or for latitude/longitude. You choose the calculation method, such as Muslim World League, ISNA or Umm al-Qura, so results can match a local mosque’s convention. Answers are compact JSON, which suits a quick agent tool call better than scraping a timetable page.

Prompt to give your agent
When I ask for prayer times, call https://api.aladhan.com/v1/timingsByCity/<DD-MM-YYYY>?city=<city>&country=<country>&method=<id> (no API key). Ask me which calculation method my community uses if I haven't said. Show Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha in local time, plus the Hijri date, and mention that local mosque timetables can differ by a few minutes.

- Do not override your local mosque’s published timetable. Calculated times can differ from the local convention by minutes.
- Do not fetch one day at a time for a whole year. Use the monthly calendar endpoints and cache the results, and stay under 12 requests/second.
- Do not leave out the method parameter in an app for a specific community. The default may not match their convention.
Use cases
- Daily briefing agents and reminders
- Travel assistants that adjust to the destination city
- Calendar apps showing Hijri dates
